Google Adsense: Don’ts for Using the Google Adsense Program

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Google Adsense is a fun and easy way to make extra money. It’s important to follow the rules though as Google is serious about the integrity of this program.  Not following the rules could result in your Google Adsense account being terminated. Here are a few Don’ts for using the program:

DON’T

Never, ever, ever click on your own ads.  Google Adsense makes it very clear this won’t be tolerated.

Don’t ask your friends and family to click on your ads.  Rather, earn money by referring them to the Google Adsense program.

Don’t participate in the Google Adsense program strictly for the money. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It will take time and hard work to make a profit.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything the first day.  Although the Google Adsense program is extremely user-friendly, it may take a little time to integrate all the facets of the program.  Be patient and above all, have fun!

Hopefully, these helpful tips will ease you into using the program and help you avoid mistakes that could possibly cost you a lot of time or money.

How To Create Search Engine Friendly Pages

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

There is no point in building a website unless there are visitors coming in. A major source of traffic for most sites on the Internet is search engines like Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Altavista and so on. Hence, by designing a search engine friendly site, you will be able to rank easily in search engines and obtain more visitors.

Major search engines use programs called crawlers or robots to index websites to list on their search result pages. They follow links to a page, reads the content of the page and record it in their own database, pulling up the listing as people search for it.

If you want to make your site indexed easily, you should avoid using frames on your website. Frames will only confuse search engine robots and they might even abandon your site because of that. Moreover, frames make it difficult for users to bookmark a specific page on your site without using long, complicated scripts.

Do not present important information in Flash movies or in images. Search engine robots can only read text on your source code so if you present important words in Flash movies and images rather than textual form, your search engine ranking will be affected dramatically.

Use meta tags accordingly on each and every page of your site so that search engine robots know at first glance what that particular page is about and whether or not to index it. By using meta tags, you are making the search engine robot’s job easier so they will crawl and index your site more frequently.

Stop using wrong HTML tags like <font> to style your page. Use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) instead because they are more effective and efficient. By using CSS, you can eliminate redundant HTML tags and make your pages much lighter and faster to load.

Affiliate Sales Boost Bloggers Income

Monday, June 25th, 2007

I’m always asked “How can I boost my income on my blog”. Unless you’ve lived in a cave for quite some time, you know Google Adsense is paying less and less. For many bloggers, it’s not worth the trouble.

How To Boost Income With a Top Affiliate Program

Many bloggers are going back to Old School ways to boost income. They’re searching out

online affiliate programs

and using text links inside post to increase their income.

The text links should not be blatent advertisements. This really turns off many blog readers. Bloggers should not make every post about an affiliate program either. This can really hurt your reputation.

I use CPA ads because the payout is often much more than a Pay Per Click type payout. I have some affiliate programs that are paying me $50 for every sale. That sure beats 10 cents per click you might be making from Adsense.

Deciding on what type of affiliate program you should use is all up to you. Pick one that fits your personality and your blog. Nothing turns off a blog reader faster than seeing an obvious ad “post” about the latest and greatest drug when your blog is about Personal Finances.

Another afffiliate marketing tip is to research the affiliate network you sign up for. Every affiliate network has it’s own pro’s and con’s, just make sure you’re satisfied with the one you choose before signing up.

Why Text Links Out Perform Other Ads

I think the reason text links outperform other ads is that they are not invasive plus they resemble a normal link. Consider it “stealth marketing”. People just feel more comfortable clicking on a link than an ad.

Not only can text links convert more readers into buyers, they can also help your optimization. Also, by using keywords that your reader is likely to use to find you in the search engine rankings, you increase the chance of that reader clicking on your affiliate text link! No wonder text links work so well. They’re more flexible than other ad media.

How To Make Money With A Blog and an Affiliate Program

Monday, June 11th, 2007

For some bloggers, making money with their blog is a complicated path so they just throw some Google Adsense ads up and settle for what every Google pays them. If you’re this type of blogger, you could be leaving thousands of dollars per month on the table.
For these blog owners, making money with a blog is only a dream. However, it’s really simple making money with a blog. I’ll show you how.

What’s an Affiliate Program?

An affiliate program is a program that larger companies use to boost their sales. They realize they can only reach so many people with their advertising. By having bloggers advertise their goods and services; they can reach a larger base of potential customers. And by having bloggers write about products, the chances of them making a sale from the bloggers post is better than average. In exchange, they’re willing to give you a percentage of the sales price. It’s a pretty good trade off.

How Do I Find An Affiliate Program

There are many ways of finding an affiliate program. Large companies like Amazon and Home Depot have affiliate programs, as do smaller companies. The best way to find an affiliate program is to search for retailers who have products that you’re readers would buy. For example, if you blog were about book or movie reviews, then Amazon would make a great partner. Not so much if you chose Home Depot!
You’ll also find that many of these companies belong to something called Affiliate Networks. These are network companies that run affiliate programs for companies like eBay and Northern Tool. Some examples of affiliate networks are Commission Junction, Link Share, Share A Sale, etc. You can find these affiliate network companies by searching for them in Google.
